Close to Bucharest towards northeast, there is a little, though beautiful castle, on the shores of a beautiful lake, surrounded by parks. The nearest, Mogoşoaia, is built at the beginning of the 18th century, during a Renaissance of the arts in the Southern province of Romania. Built as a manor house between the then two most important cities - Bucharest and Târgovişte - under the reigning Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu, Mogoşoaia reminds of both the Venetian and the Turkish style.
Together with the Southern Romanian popular style, these influences lead to the formation of the classical Southern Romanian style, which has been given the name Brâncoveanu's. How the elegant castle, decorated with wonderful stonemasonry, did survive all the wars, robberies, and destroying of the last two centuries, tells us our tour leader. Not only the Art Exhibition within the castle is interesting, but also the practical way Romanians disposed of the horrors of recent history
