Overview

Ever imagined yourself walking through a medieval village that’s located right in the middle of a city? Join this private guided tour and discover Bucharest’s Village Museum – a time capsule in the heart of an urban jungle. Once enchanted by the folklore and by the eerie looks of the outdoor museum, you will end the tour in style: taste traditional Romanian wines, cheese & dry sausages at one of Bucharest's oldest wine bars located in a century old manor.

“The architecture of a country is, perhaps, the most accurate expression of its history” (M. Cantacuzino). Therefore, we visit the Village Museum. Once you know the history, you have to understand the culture. Food & wine reflect a country's culture. Yes, that's why we do a wine tasting after the visit at the museum!

What To Expect

Muzeul National al Satului "Dimitrie Gusti"
Your first stop is at The National Village Museum – an open-air reconstruction of the traditional Romanian village.

“The architecture of a country is, perhaps, the most accurate expression of its history” (M. Cantacuzino). For many older Romanians, entering the National Village Museum is like going back to the childhood days spent in the countryside. For everyone else, this is the perfect place to discover the authentic Romanian village, with folklore elements and buildings originating from all historical provinces and going back all the way to the 17th century.

Your private guide will show you the reef-roofed houses of Danube Delta, the simple elegant architecture of Moldavia or Wallachia and the exquisitely wooden carved facades of Transylvanian houses. You can admire steep-roofed peasant homes, thatched barns, log cabins, watermills, windmills, wooden churches, oil presses, road crucifixes and many more. After this stop, you’ll understand why traditions still survive intact in some Romanian villages, despite countless invasions starting from ancient times (Romans), going through medieval (Mongols, ottomans, Hapsburgs) or modern era (Soviet Union). The perfect answer to this is an old folk saying: people from the country-side form a community while people from the cities form a society.

Old Town
The 2nd stop is about wine tasting – enjoy local Romanian wines plus traditional cheese & dry sausages in one of the city’s oldest wine bars. After the tour at the village museum, your private guide will drive you to the win bar, located right next to Old Town.

Romania – the world’s 13th largest wine producer with over 2000 years of viticulture tradition. We believe that knowledge of a region’s food and wine is intrinsic to understanding its culture. Thus, the next stop is at Bucharest’s first wine bar, in a century old manor. The traditional architecture, elegant interior and the wine bottles displayed like books on shelves all create a perfect setting for wine tasting.

Whether you’re a casual wine drinker or a true connoisseur, you’ll enjoy yourself as you discover the distinctive “terroir” of famous Romanian vineyards like Dealu Mare, where the wine is nicknamed “liquid gold”. You’ll be able to taste 4 different types of local wines, along with a plate of traditional cheese & dry sausages.
